Use of the Nash Creek Hot Springs without express permission from the FNNND is considered unauthorized access to private land. There is a formal application process in place for NND Citizens seeking permission to visit the site, including advance notice and agreement to specific terms and conditions. At this time, the Nacho Nyak Dun are not permitting any non-Citizens access to the site.
Nash Creek Hot Springs
Nash Creek Hot Springs are located 80 km northwest of the village of Mayo, about 12 km upstream from where Nash Creek flows into the Wind River. They are not marked on the official map for the area (106D/10), but the exact coordinates are 64°33.1’N, 134°42.5’W. There are three ways to access the springs depending on the season and your resources: by helicopter from Mayo to a small private airstrip at the site; by snowmobile from the community of Elsa in winter; or by packhorse from Elsa in the summer.
The springs emerge as a hot stream on the south bank of Nash Creek, near the lower end of the airstrip. Despite the remote location, there are basic facilities: a small changing shack, a sauna building, and several cabins built by local guides. A wooden deck extends over the creek, with a soaking tub beneath it that can hold up to six people. The water is clear, odorless, and hot, with bright green algae growing naturally in the stream.
