The Sanctuary area comprises the Crypt, Outer Pool and Small Chapel. In this part of the Well grounds, visitors are asked to be quiet, mindful of being in a sacred place and of needs of others, who may have come to pray, to seek healing or simply to find a place of tranquility and peace.
​Crypt & Outer Pool
Visit the crypt which covers the source of the healing waters. The spring rises in the lower open crypt and flows out into the large exterior bathing pool. Built in the early 16th century, the crypt is a 2-storey Late Perpendicular Gothic building.  Construction of the crypt is attributed to Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII.  Today, the Crypt and the St. Winefride’s Chapel above is a Grade 1 Listed Building and Scheduled Ancient Monument and is maintained CADW (Welsh Government’s Historic Environment Service)
