This is a very WELL hidden site (get the joke?)
This is one of the 3 wells which supplied The Croft Spa in Croft-On-Tees with water. Unlike The Canny Well and Old Spa, this is not a sulphurous well. This well is deceptively deep and is NOT sign posted anywhere so when hunting for it mind your step! The co-ordinates aren’t massively accurate so I’ve included a OS Map showing the wells location. One easy way to find it is once your in the general area make your way down to the banks of the beck and walk down the banks until you see a small stream flowing into it. Follow that stream and you’ll find its source, The Sweet Well. I advise going to look for this well in Winter or Early Spring as it gets grown over by plants in the summer and is hidden by leaves in the Autumn.
Here’s a video I shot in 2020 showing me next to The Sweet Well – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yP5J65Ppj3Y
Hope you find this historic gem!! GOOD LUCK :))
