It’s a “risorgiva”: a spring of water flowing underground through layers of clay and emerging in the lowlands of the Pianura Padana. It is believed to have taumaturgic properties and since the medieval ages it has been considered sacred and dedicated to San Giminiano (the protector saint of the nearby city of Modena). During the 1800s modenese people thought that bathing in this spring helped the town to overcome a cholera breakout.
