Travel east 19 miles from Fort Wayne into Maumee Township on U.S. 24 and you’ll pass near Blue Cast Springs.
The spring is a little hard to find, but worth the treasure. I will have to come in the fall when there is less mosquitoes and vegetation overgrowth. There is some debris nearby due to it being an old spring house bottling station but that was put there back in 1901.
there is a story behind it…..
“Once described by a local newspaper as “the magnificent natural beauty
spot nestled on the lofty banks of the Maumee,” the name Blue Cast,
however, came from the bluish color of the waters. It also seemed to
have evidence of a unique magnetic force not typical of mineral water.
People had discovered that its attractive, drinkable qualities seemed to
be an invigorating tonic with metabolic properties. Rumors among those
who knew the place said that iron or steel, when left in the water for a
time, became magnetized.”
“South of the mineral spring, another one was found that produced sulfur
water and mud, which spawned still another business. This one was to
attract people seeking the benefits of therapeutic baths.”
