Tunnel Springs, Placitas, New Mexico.
I lived just down the road for 5 years and our well water was not great. My wife and I got water from the spring all the time.
NOTE: I lived there until 1997. At that time the water came out of a horizontal metal pipe drilled straight into the rock face. The satellite image shows some improvement to the parking area. I cannot confirm that the spring is still flowing. This is in the national forest. No fee for access.
Tunnel Springs Road is very rough. I would not recommend it for vehicles that are ground-huggers. SUV’s and Pickup trucks are best.
Directions: Go East off of I-25 at Bernalillo. Take highway 165 to Tunnel Springs Road on the right. Watch out for the Tarantula Migration during October. Follow Tunnel Springs Road to the very end. You will be at about 9500 ft elevation at the top.
