Spring is located on Campobello Island, Bunker Hill Rd, New Brunswick E5E 1Z3, Canada
A local friend took us here years ago when the road in was just a narrow path. He called it the Barrel Well, however on topographical maps, I see the adjacent hillside is called Barrow Well Hill so not really sure. The man who showed us the well lived their his entire life, so I call it Barrel Well.
The gravel road has since been widened so access is easier. The water is constantly flowing out of what is most recently a plastic pipe.
The old man who first took us there told us that legend said the water came from far away…local lore said it was from Connecticut…, and if you drank from the spring you would return again and again. One of the big attractions on Campobello is Franklin Roosevelt’s summer “cottage”. We were told that when the Roosevelts visited the staff would fill water containers at the Barrel Well and take them by horse cart back to the cottage for drinking water.
